A couple enjoying time together in retirement

Advice shaped around you

Understand Your Options, And Ensure Your Pension Is Secure

Impartial, independent pension advice from one of our financial advisers lays out the options available for you and your pensions. Your advice is completely personal and tailored to you, taking into account all of your retirement dreams, as well as protecting funds to last long enough for the future.

Get your pension ready for retirement

Our clients know that when retirement looms, they need their pension to be ‘ready for retirement’.

We will review and then advise on your existing plans, consolidating your pensions into the right places. We’ll often advise layers of protection, too, to help prevent large losses at the time you need your pension funds the most, transferring into accounts that don’t fluctuate, if you’re nearing retirement age. That way, we minimise the chance of anything jeopardising your ability to retire when you want, how you want.

Drawdown, UFPLS and flexible income

Life is for living - and retirement promises so much more quality time.

That’s why so many of our clients want advice on their pension drawdown options. Whether that’s taking your 25% tax-free cash withdrawal as a lump sum, designating flexible income options, or re-investing in a Self-Invested Personal Pension (SIPP), it’s about understanding where your money is, and feeling confident it’s doing the best it can to work towards your goal.

Your goal might be ensuring your pot lasts long enough in retirement to pay for your holidays, for example, or it might be continuing to grow your invested pension funds to pass on to your children - or maybe it’s a combination of both.

Make the most of now

When all of your concerns are sorted, you can really make the most of now. Live your retirement to the full, knowing that your pension planning advice has considered your goals, as well as your needs over the years to come.

Consider a guaranteed income

Some clients opt for pension annuities. Taking your pension savings pot as a whole, you could choose a policy which then guarantees you a regular income - either for a set period or for the rest of your life. If you love the security of a monthly paycheck, it’s an option worth considering.

Providing advice on Standard, “Defined Contribution” pensions (not on transfers of Final Salary, or “Defined Benefit” pensions received by public sector workers like teachers or those within the NHS, Civil Service, or Armed Forces), we can offer advice that’s completely tailored to your situation, from a trusted, FCA-regulated, CII Chartered firm, with independent Financial Advisers.

Pension Planning FAQs

01How much does pension advice cost?

Pension advice fees are usually either percentage-based or on a fixed fee basis. Percentage-based fees are often 1-3% of the value of your pension, whilst a fixed fee rate might also vary based on the value of your pension. We use the percentage-based approach, on a tiered structure which reduces the percentage cost of our initial fee if your total value is over £200,000, and your first consultation is free*.

02Should I consolidate my pensions into one?

There can be benefits to consolidating separate pension pots into one. We give pension transfer advice to illustrate when your money could be doing more for you elsewhere. With some pots you might lose certain benefits if you take money out, or they might hold exit penalties, and you need to consider the different levels of management fees across different offerings. We’ll identify such positives and pitfalls, and let you know what type of consolidation will work best for your pension pot.

03Can I take my tax-free cash and leave the rest invested?

Yes, you can take your lump sum (generally 25% of your pension pot) from your defined contribution pension without withdrawing the rest. This is a flexi-access drawdown. You can access the rest as and when you need, but this 75% will be subject to tax. Check whether your scheme entitles you to an enhanced amount of tax-free cash.

04Do you advise on final-salary (defined benefit) pension transfers?

We only advise on Defined Contribution or Money Purchase (“Standard”) pensions, not transfers of Final Salary or Defined Benefit pensions. If you have a Defined Benefit pension and need advice about separate pensions, investments or Inheritance Tax planning, we’d be happy to help with those areas.

05How much pension do I need to retire?

The key is understanding your likely expenditure. To start, calculate your essential expenditure (likely a steady sum throughout). Then decide what standard of living you want - basic, or more luxurious? Will your lifestyle be as extravagant in retirement’s later years? Consider when you hope to retire, your pots’ worth (don’t forget State Pension), and you and your employer’s contributions. We’ll explore it all in your initial consultation.
