Advice shaped around you

How we advise on savings and investments

Investing up to (and possibly throughout) retirement can help maintain the real value of your finances, allowing you to consider investing in the important things - whether that’s booking once-in-a-lifetime experiences or helping with your child’s education costs.

Whatever your goal, our expert and impartial FCA-regulated financial advisers will advise and provide guidance on the most suitable solutions available from across the whole of the market. This could include:

  • Reviewing existing ISAs, bonds and investment accounts
  • Exploring where best to invest a lump sum (tax-free cash, inheritance, or sale proceeds)
  • Matching your investments with your attitude to risk
  • Selecting across whole-of-market fund products completely independently and impartially
  • Highlighting ethical or more responsible investing options
  • Ensure you are taking the correct investment strategy to match your circumstances
  • Offering ongoing reviews (as an optional additional service)

Unrestricted and impartial

Our independent, whole-of-market approach

We are unrestricted and impartial, with no ties to any provider. Both CII Chartered and FCA-approved (FCA 1015743), we can research and pick from across the market, with expertise and insight, choosing the best investment option to fit your goals.

Clients tend to approach our financial investment advice service to review existing investment plans and get help across Share ISAs, Investment Bonds, and General Investment Accounts, to see if they’re performing as well as they could do.

We also arrange completely new, bespoke plans for investors with savings who are looking to start their investment journey.

Personal, pragmatic advice

Investment risk,
and how we manage it for you

Investment allocates your funds to assets, with the expectation that the value of your investment will grow over time. You can accrue more* when you risk more.

Everyone’s capacity for risk mixes the emotional with the pragmatic. Some people are more conservative about risk across their whole lives, regardless of their financial situation, whereas some are ready to leap into a higher risk strategy, for the chance of high reward. Putting aside emotion, there are some markers which indicate to us how we should suggest you manage risk.

If you’re planning a good decade of investment, it’s easier to sit with higher risk options through fluctuation.

If you’re looking to invest for only a year or two, you might be obliged to withdraw your investment at a time when its value has come down, so a far lower risk strategy would be appropriate.

If you have the affordability to accept high risk, your money could recoup at a much higher rate. However, if you’re nearing retirement and looking for pension investment advice, we’d be advising you to consolidate funds rather than engage with high-risk products, unless your pot is large enough to stomach the capacity for loss.

Investment Advice FAQs

01How much do I need to start investing?

There is no minimum level; you can buy shares for a few pounds! Our investment advice, however, is typically only cost-effective for investors with £100,000+ to invest. Bear in mind that investments can go up or down and you may not get back the full amount you originally invested, so it’s important to only invest what you can afford. Ensure you do not leave yourself short; as a rule of thumb it’s sensible to leave 6-12 months of monthly expenditure (plus any planned expenditure over the next few years) in accessible, deposit-based funds to act as a contingency against financial emergencies.

02What’s the difference between an ISA and a pension?

A pension is an investment specifically for retirement, which you cannot access until that point. You can invest up to about £1.07 million in a pension to withdraw 25% tax-free. A stocks and shares ISA allows you to invest £20,000 every year, tax-free, and you don’t pay tax when you withdraw (which you can do at any point).

03How do you decide where to invest my money?

ISAs and pensions are great tax efficient wrappers for individuals wanting to invest. Beyond that, your adviser will consider other products from a wide range of options available, that all have their own key features, benefits, and disadvantages. Once that is done we need to consider investment funds from across the whole of the market, so run specialist research to determine who we feel are the most suitable investment managers for you. We suggest a personalised strategy based on your goals, your timeline, and your attitude to risk, which our advisers will determine at your initial consultation. Your strategy is likely to be diversified across different geographical locations, asset types, and management styles, to ensure you don’t have all of your eggs in one basket.

04Can you review my existing investments?

Absolutely. Our investment advice usually centres around reviewing your existing plans across Share ISAs, Investment Bonds, and General Investment Accounts. You don’t have to be starting a new investment journey to check that your investments are performing as well as they possibly can be.

05Do you offer ethical or ESG investments?

Yes. As we are independent, we have access to the whole of the market. Most investment managers now try to ensure that the assets underneath the bonnet of a portfolio are ethical, and run regular reports to determine just how ethical the portfolio is. However, where a client has a strict ethical preference, our whole-of-market research can determine the most suitable solution badged with an ethical mandate. It’s becoming more common now that people want to help make the world a better place, whilst also having the potential to achieve capital growth on their funds.
